Offline location saving

Pean can save a place locally when you do not have a signal and sync it later when you are back online. This makes it useful on trails, in forests, near lakes, and anywhere mobile signal is unreliable.

How offline saving works

When you save a place with no internet connection, Pean stores the GPS coordinates locally on your device. The save is instant and does not depend on a network request completing.

The queued place shows on your local map immediately. Once your device reconnects — whether to WiFi or cellular — the save syncs automatically to your account. No manual action is needed.

Where it matters

Most natural areas where people actually want to save spots have weak or absent mobile signal:

  • Dense forests where tree cover blocks signal
  • River banks and lakeshores in remote areas
  • Mountain trails and ridgelines
  • Underground locations like caves or valleys
  • Rural fields and meadows outside coverage zones

Pean handles all of these. The save happens the same way regardless of connectivity.

GPS does not need signal

GPS location uses satellite signals — not cellular or WiFi. As long as your iPhone or Apple Watch has GPS lock, Pean can capture precise coordinates. You can be deep in a forest with zero bars and still save an accurate location.

Offline on Apple Watch

The Apple Watch version of Pean also saves offline. A tap on your wrist captures GPS locally on the Watch and queues the save. When the Watch and iPhone are back in range, the place syncs automatically.

Common questions

Can I save places without internet?

Yes. Pean saves places locally when you have no signal. They sync to your account automatically when you reconnect.

Does offline saving work on Apple Watch too?

Yes. Apple Watch saves GPS coordinates locally and syncs them to your iPhone when in range.

How long are places stored locally before syncing?

Until you reconnect. There is no time limit — places queued offline stay on the device and sync whenever a connection is available.

Do I need GPS signal to save a place offline?

Yes. GPS requires satellite signal to determine your coordinates. GPS hardware works without cellular signal, but it does need a clear sky view for best accuracy.

Can I view my saved places on the map when offline?

Places you have already saved are visible in the app. The interactive map tile loading may be limited without signal depending on your cache state.
